Like many Mustang enthusiasts right now, I am spending a good deal of my time getting my Mustang ready for the big Mustangs Across America 50th Anniversary Drive this April. The cross-country drive from Los Angeles to Charlotte will take over 500 Mustangs to the MCA 50th Birthday Celebration show.

The car is of course Project Rewind, the 1995 Mustang GT which will be the pace car for the event. So it not only needs to look good, but it needs to be in tip-top mechanical shape to make the drive to Charlotte without a hitch.

Since the last update, we have done a number of visual and mechanical projects. First up is the OEM six spoke 17″ wheels. They have been refinished to factory appearance using a number of products from SummitRacing.com.

We used VHT Argent Paint and SEM Clearcoat to refinish the wheels. First a light scuff up was done with steel-wool to prepare the surface without taking down the cast finish texture. After a thorough cleaning the finishes were applied for an excellent looking result.

Next we moved to the brakes which were from PowerStop. The full set of front and rear cross-drilled and slotted rotors increase the stopping power even though they are stock size with our factory calipers. High quality carbon-fiber ceramic pads and the heat resistant rotors really give a difference you can feel.

The suspension received a new set of KYB struts and shocks too from LateModelRestoration.com. Here the KYB dampers are pretty close to the stock ride but do offer a slightly more aggressive tune. They are a perfect match for our stock springs and bushings.

Lastly we have made the final visual cue to Project Rewind, adding the names of all our sponsors for the project to it.

Next on the project plan is the installation of a new Exedy clutch and SVE short throw shifter from LateModelRestoration.com. Then we move to the interior which gets new carpet and floor mats and some awesome custom leather seating by TMI Products.

If you are working on your Mustang for the big drive this April, keep at it and stay tuned. Log into www.TheMustangNews.com for detailed updates and installs for all these and other projects done on Project Rewind!
